AKMAL (NOMINEE – ARIA Award for Best Comedy Release 2018) immigrated to Australia from Egypt with his family nearly 30 years ago. He is now considered one of Australia’s most respected, successful, and accomplished comics. Akmal has been nominated for two Australian Comedy Awards, two Helpmann Awards and two ARIA awards for his solo shows Live and Uncensored (2008) and Transparent (2018).
DILRUK JAYASINHA (RECIPIENT - Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent, 2018) hails from Sri Lanka and is one of the most in demand headliners on the Australian and international comedy scene; with credits ranging from appearances at Just for Laughs, sell out shows for The Art of the Dil (2017); and two recorded hour-long specials, for the ABC and Amazon Prime - released globally in 2020.
STEPH TISDELL (WINNER – John Pinder Award, MICF 2019) is a proud Ydinji woman, and major up-and-comer in the Australian Comedy Scene. Since her 2014 arrival, Steph has regularly appeared on Australian television and recently hosted the 2022 MICF Gala. Steph’s 2018 debut solo show Identity Steft, won the weekly award for best emerging talent at Adelaide Fringe Festival, and was nominated for Best Newcomer Award at MICF in the same year.
SIMON TAYLOR (RECIPIENT – Under Our Wing Award, The Butterfly Club) has performed over 5,000 gigs across 57 cities in ten countries and has won numerous industry awards. He’s been seen on ABC TV, Network Ten and Netflix and is a highly sought-after Hollywood writer, having penned jokes for NBC, Disney, and Comedy Central. Simon was a writer for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno until its completion and wrote for Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell on the ABC.
TING LIM (NATIONAL FINALIST – MICF RAW) has represented Queensland in the national Green Faces competition and has become a regular at the renowned Sit Down Comedy Club in Brisbane. Ting’s comedy has taken her from her native Singapore, to sharing the stage with comedian legends and screen with Jimeoin – where she was recently featured on an episode of Waltzing Jimeoin (Network 10).
URVI MAJUMDAR is a Melbourne comedian of Indian heritage. No stranger to sold out crowds, Urvi performed her debut solo show to rave reviews and packed audiences at MICF. You can catch her on Channel 9's Metrosexual, Season 2 of ABC's Fisk, and regularly as a guest on Triple R. Urvi has been a writer for Channel 10's The Project and ABC's The Weekly and is an emerging talent not to miss.
